Editing & Proofreading Services
The thorough editing and proofreading of every translation is part of our meticulous translation process.
As a standalone service, we offer editing and proofreading services for translations done by another source.
There are many different types of revision we can do for you. Not sure which one you need, or how are they different?
Here is a brief guide:
Proofreading usually entails checking just the translated text to identify and correct any remaining mistakes in grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and format, which were overlooked or unnoticed during the editing process. As it involves correcting small mistakes, the context, terminology, and facts aren’t considered in as much detail, unless of course there are clearly obvious mistakes. The job primarily focuses on the grammatical correctness of the text.
If you want to be certain that the message of the original text was appropriately conveyed in English or Spanish, you will also want us to do the following…
Editing (Bilingual revision) is a more in-depth revision process that a translated text goes through. It is a bilingual revision involving a comparison of the translated text and the source text. It’s revised and corrected for mistakes in style, spelling, grammar, format as well as translation accuracy and completeness, terminology, cultural appropriateness, and terminology consistency. The purpose is to produce a translated text that is faithful to the source text, regarding accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
For terminology-heavy specialized texts, an additional Technical Terminology Revision may also be necessary.
So please let us know if you would like to include that too!
Proofreading or editing doesn’t usually entail significant formatting or terminology effort. If extensive formatting or terminology work is needed, please let us know if you would like to include that too!
Custom Editing or Proofreading – let us know what you need and we will revise your unique project.
CLEAR PATH OF COMMUNICATION
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
How long will it take to do my project?
Every project has unique needs and specifications. The delivery time of a project depends on several factors: the length and complexity of the text, the creativity level required in the text, the amount of research needed, and our availability.
Cultural adaptation projects can take longer, even if the content itself is shorter. Providing reference material, glossaries, style guides or contact for terminology questions will speed things up and ensure consistency across your communications.
When you ask us for a quote, we send you a proposal in which we clearly state the time of delivery for the project. If you accept the proposal, we will make sure you receive the text(s) by the specified date(s).
I am not sure what I need. Can you help?
Of course, we can help. We can set a time to chat and we would be happy to talk you through your options, from proofreading to in-depth editing, cultural adaptation and starting from scratch. Even if you don’t have a specific need right now, get in touch so that we can advise you and make sure we are free when you need us.
I don’t really like what I have. Can you use my ideas and start again?
Of course, we can help. We would be happy to take a look at your existing text and advise you on the options. We can look at editing, adaptation, or translating from scratch, depending on what you need and what it’s for. Even if you don’t have a specific need right now, get in touch so that we can advise you and make sure we are free when you need us.
Do you work with documents generated through machine translation applications?
Please notice that we will not proofread or edit documents generated by machine translation applications. In recent times, some clients have gotten the idea that they can save money by running text through a machine translation application and then have a professional translation company or translator proofread or edit the work. Our experience has taught us that these requests are to be avoided, since it may take more time to achieve high-quality translations through proofreading or editing machine translations than translating from scratch.
When can I contact you?
We are available on weekdays between 9 am and 5 pm (EST). We aim to respond to emails within 24 hours on working days. If we are away or unavailable, we always set up an automatic response so you know when to expect a reply.
